European Union Supports the Improvement of Utility Infrastructure in the Municipality of Raška

Within the EU PRO Programme, the European Union will support the improvement of utility infrastructure in the Municipality of Raška through the construction of the sewage network in Trnavska reka. The project is worth almost 335,000 Euros, of which the EU is investing 150,000 Euros, and the Municipality of Raška will provide over 184,500 Euros in order to improve the provision of utility services to more than 100 families living in the settlement.

“The project will solve one of the biggest issues in the inner core of the municipality and contribute to a better quality of life for the residents of Trnavska reka, including 30 Roma families who will have better living conditions, which, I am convinced, will contribute to their social inclusion,” said the Deputy Mayor of Raška, Đorđe Gogić.

According to the Deputy Mayor, the project of construction of 1.1 km of sewage network, which will be implemented in line with the principles of good governance, will also have a positive impact on the environment, since the new system will be connected to the wastewater treatment system.

“Through the EU PRO Programme, the European Union, in partnership with the Government of Serbia, supports the implementation of local priority projects, and the project in the Municipality of Raška is additionally important because of its social aspect and its primary goal - to improve the quality of life of people,” said Olivera Kostić, EU PRO Programme Manager, recalling that this is one of 37 local infrastructure projects worth 4.5 million Euros supported by the European Union through the EU PRO Programme.

“Long-term cooperation with the Municipality of Raška is reflected not only in the number of projects, but also in their quality and involvement of local administration in their timely preparation, especially when considering the great competition of 99 local self-governments included in EU PRO,” the Programme Manager added.

Currently, within the EU PRO Programme the projects worth almost half a million Euros are being implemented in Raška, which, in addition to improving utility infrastructure in Trnavska reka, include the development of a geographical information system and formulation of planning documentation.

Moreover, Olivera Kostić invited entrepreneurs from Raška and other local self-governments included in the EU PRO Programme engaged in production and not older than five years to use the opportunity to apply for the second Public Call for the Procurement of Equipment and Provision of Services for Entrepreneurs, Micro and Small Enterprises that is open until 10 November 2019.

The project Construction of the Sewage Network in Tranvska reka is funded by the European Union in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Serbia through the EU PRO Programme. Complementary project activities related to the implementation of the principles of good governance are carried out in cooperation with Swiss PRO Programme supported by the Government of Switzerland.
