European Union Supports the Reconstruction of the Community Centre in Dugojnica Village in Surdulica

With the support of the European Union, the villagers of Dugojnica, Surdulica, will once again, after the community centre is reconstructed, have a place for social and cultural activities. The construction works planned, valued at 69,207 Euros, include the replacement of roofing, façade, doors and windows, installations and furnishing the building with furniture and computers.

“The European Union and Government of Serbia are supporting our efforts to ensure equal conditions and improve the quality of life of people living in villages. The EU already helped renovate the school in Suvojnica, and the renovated Community Centre in Dugojnica will be used for the organisation of social and cultural events for the villagers of this and neighbouring villages,” said Surdulica Mayor, Aleksandra Popović, adding that the Municipality is co-funding the project with 12,051 Euros. As she added, the building will also be used to address other needs of the local population, including organisation of trainings to enhance agricultural production.

The project also includes activities related to the application of good governance principles, such as involving the local population in the development of a rulebook on the use and management of the Community Centre. This activity will be implemented in partnership with the Swiss PRO programme supported by the Swiss Government.

The contractor is General Crafts Cooperative “Pobeda” from Surdulica, selected in the public procurement procedure implemented by the Municipality of Surdulica.

The reconstruction of the Community Centre in the village Dugojnica is funded by the European Union in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Serbia, through the EU PRO Programme.
