Improved Conditions for Investors

The City of Šabac, supported by the European Union, will finalise the infrastructural equipping of the North-Western Work Zone, which will considerably improve the business environment and create new development opportunities for the city. The total value of this project is 870,445 Euros, out of which 710,360 Euros has been provided by the EU through the EU PRO development programme, and the City co-funds with 160,000 Euros.

The development of the infrastructure in the North-Western Zone, which includes the construction of the water supply network, faecal and rain sewage, will make this location more attractive to investors, thereby contributing to an increase in employment and impoved living standard of the citizens.

"Šabac has had good experiences with the implementation of numerous projects with the support of the European Union. Thanks to this assistance we have considerably improved our infrastructure in the past years - from capital investment projects such as the Srem - Mačva regional landfill, the wastewater treatment plant, the construction of the embankment on the Sava and the Drina rivers and many others. This project is extremely important because it will further improve the business environment in the industrial zone and facilitate the economy, which plans to expand the capacities and open new facilities, all meaning new jobs and new opportunities for our citizens," says Nemanja Pajić, President of the Šabac City Assembly.

Jasmina Ilić, EU PRO Infrastructure Manager, pointed out that Šabac had successfully responded to the requirements of the Public Call. The most important criteria is the improvement of business conditions in the North-Western Zone and increased number of potential investors. It is expected that a thousand new workers will find jobs here and that the works will be completed by the end of the year.

Thanks to this project, the North-Western Work Zone will have four roads with about two kilometres of water supply network, about 1.5 kilometres of sewerage and about one kilometre of driveways. About 50 international and local companies operate in this zone, and about 4,000 people have been employed in Šabac in the past four years.

Over 30 million euro invested so far

The Financial Times has included Šabac among the ten most attractive investment destinations, while NALED awarded it the title of investment attracting champion. Šabac is one of nine cities in Serbia in which the European Union, through the EU PRO Programme, is financing the development of the business infrastructure. The European Union has so far invested more than 30 million Euros in the projects in Šabac.
