European Union Supports Improving Investment Environment in Šabac

With the European Union support of over 710,000 Euros, works started on infrastructural equipping of the North-Western Work Zone in Šabac, in order to additionally improve the economic environment in the city. The works include the construction of around one kilometre of roadway as well as water supply network, faecal and rain sewage, with the aim to attract investment and also increase the number of employed citizens and their living standard.

“The City of Šabac submitted a good-quality project proposal and was granted funds for further development and expansion of the industrial zone that would lead to the sale of lots to new investors, while there is already interest in purchasing of 11.7 hectares of the land here in the Zone,” Nebojša Zelenović, Mayor of Šabac, said and added that the North-Western industrial zone was the largest one in Serbia, currently housing 50 foreign and domestic companies.

Mayor Zelenović also said that the City of Šabac was a reliable partner to the European Union that so far had implemented the EU projects in the total value of 30 million Euros.

“We are pleased to visit the works on one of the nine projects for improving business infrastructure, funded by the EU with 4.5 million Euros through the EU PRO Programme. The implementation of these projects creates conditions for the economic development of local self-governments, increased investments and creation of new jobs,” Olivera Kostić, EU PRO Programme Manager, said, adding that Šabac and Sokobanja were the first among the local self-governments to start with the implementation of business infrastructure projects.

Olivera Kostić recalled that the European Union had allocated a total of 25 million Euros for the implementation of the EU PRO Programme, implemented in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Serbia, with the aim to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
